Smart buildings
Following on from the success of the Smart Infrastructure roundtable and report published in January 2012, the Royal Academy of Engineering is carrying out an activity on Smart Buildings.
The project will focus on developments in smart building design and adaptability and will involve participants from different stages of the building process - from design to use. It will also look at implementing smartness and examine how Building Information Modelling will affect the design and usage of the built space.
Led by Professor Jeremy Watson FREng, the project is based on meeting held on 15 March 2013 and will result in a report that will provide examples of smart systems, identify key principles behind smart design, and inform users and designers of the future of smart buildings.
The project is due to complete by autumn 2013.
