Listed below is a summary of
all the recent and ongoing work of the Academy in the
field of energy policy.
CO2 Capture & Storage:
International Progress and Future Prospects – 7 & 8
November 2007
This workshop, co-hosted by
the Royal Society, the Royal Academy of Engineering
and the IEA Coal Industry Advisory Board (CIAB),
examined the future prospects for carbon dioxide
capture and storage (CCS), and progress with its
demonstration as a pivotal climate change mitigation
technology. A summary of the Meeting can be found

Report on a programme of energy seminars
The Royal Academy of
Engineering launched a series of energy seminars in
November 2004 in order to inform the debate on
energy policy. The seven seminars covered all the
major forms of energy conversion, energy efficiency,
infrastructure and security of supply and provided
an in depth understanding of the issues in each of
these areas.
The resulting report,
‘Developing a sustainable energy strategy’, gives a
summary of the evidence presented at each of the
seminars and addresses the technological and
engineering problems associated with delivering
clean, secure energy within a robust policy
framework.
Details of each of the
seminars and, where available, the presentations
given by the speakers can be found by following the
link below.
Response to the Government’s Energy Review
The information gathered
during the seminar series served to inform the
Academy’s response to the Government’s Energy Review
which took place between November 2005 and April
2006.
Future developments in the management
of nuclear waste: Building on CoRWM – 13 December 2006
This briefing examined
possible ways forward for nuclear waste management
in the UK in light of the report by the Committee on
Radioactive Waste Management. A transcript of the
meeting along with the presentations can be found
here:
Energy 2100 – May 8th, 2006
Energy 2100 was a seminar
initiated by the Prime Minister’s Council on Science
and Technology and presented by the Royal Academy of
Engineering. Its purpose was to look ahead, in the
light of best current knowledge, to the energy
supply options which could exist in the UK in 2100.
