Engineering Ethics at The Royal Academy of Engineering

The Royal Academy of Engineering’s work on the ethical aspects of engineering began with the publication in 1991 of guidance on the paramount duty of engineers to protect the public in the case of imminent disaster. Those guidelines are available here:

In 2003 The Royal Academy of Engineering set up a working group on professional ethics during on the view that it was timely to debate this within our profession and with others. The membership of the original working group was as follows:

The Academy’s work on ethics was stimulated by the Lloyd’s Register lecture by John Uff CBE QC FREng:

John Uff also published a number of articles in The Royal Academy of Engineering’s journal Ingenia on ethics in engineering practice.
