Frequently Asked Questions
Intellectual Property and Confidentiality
Q15. My secondment has also resulted in a paper and a patent.
Does The Academy have any Intellectual Property rights?
A15. The Academy does not get involved in intellectual
property rights issues. Patent and intellectual property rights should be negotiated
between The Employer, The Host and The Secondee. It is recommended that an agreement
is drawn up between these parties to protect individual interests. The HE Employer
(and The Secondee) must, however, acknowledge the financial support of The Academy
in any materials/publications related to the Secondment and in written and spoken
presentations about the secondment and its outcomes.
Q16. I have to submit my secondment report and have been asked
to give a presentation but I had signed a confidentiality agreement with The Host and
the results are confidential. What is The Academy’s view on this?
A16. The Academy adheres to commercial confidentiality issues
and as such Secondee and Host reports and presentations prepared in adherence to commercial
confidentiality are accepted by The Academy.
