Eligibility
Q1. I am a Research Student working on my PhD in a UK university. I teach for
a few hours per week. Am I eligible to apply for a secondment?
Q2. I work in a Further Education college and teach engineering at Foundation Degree (FD) level and NVQ Level 3. I graduated with an undergraduate degree in engineering 2 years ago and have no industrial experience. Am I eligible to apply for a secondment?
Q3. I went on secondment in the past. Am I eligible to apply for a secondment again?
Q4. In the past I worked in an area of engineering different to the one I teach in at the moment. I have no industrial experience in my new area of engineering. Am I eligible to apply for an industrial secondment?
Q5. I have a degree in Physics and am not a Chartered Engineer. Currently I teach engineering modules in the School of Engineering in a UK university. Am I eligible to apply?
Changes to Secondment
Q6. I received an industrial secondment award but there is a problem with my start date. Can I start my secondment next year instead?
Q7. What happens if the secondment does not take place after the award is made, or if I have to leave my secondment early?
Q8. Will the award be transferable if I win the award but am unable to take it due to circumstances that can not be helped?

Monitoring/Reporting
Q10. Are there any penalties if the Secondee and Host organisation reports are not submitted to The Academy (within the requested or agreed with The Academy deadlines and/or to The Academy’s satisfaction)?

Q12. Will my progress be monitored whilst on secondment?
Obligations
Q13. Whilst on secondment who is responsible for my attendance?
Q14. I have been on a 6-month secondment. I would like to take the last 10 days off as part of my annual leave entitlement. Does The Academy have any objections to this?
Intellectual Property and Confidentiality
Q15. My secondment has also resulted in a paper and a patent. Does The Academy have any Intellectual Property rights?
Q16. I have to submit my secondment report and have been asked to give a presentation but I had signed a confidentiality agreement with The Host and the results are confidential. What is The Academy’s view on this?
Application
Q17. What type of documents do I need to apply and where can I get these from?
Q18. How are the applications assessed and how long does the application process last for?
Q19. Can I apply for a 6-month full-time secondment and spend 3 months in the Host organisation this summer and another 3 months next summer?
Q20. I wish to apply for an 80% part-time secondment. Can I continue to teach one-day per week or do I have to stop teaching altogether?

Q27. Can I apply for a secondment in a company based overseas?

Funding
Q34. I have just started my secondment and have discovered that the costs of accommodation at the location of my host company are a lot greater than I expected. Would it be possible for The Academy to cover those?
Q35. How will the funding be paid?

Q37. Is there a financial penalty if I do not submit any of my reports?
Q38. My HEI received the full award but I was unable to complete my secondment due to circumstances that could not be helped. Will the HEI be requested to refund the funds received?
