Schemes for University Lecturers

  • ExxonMobil Engineering Teaching Fellowships

These Fellowships are designed to encourage able young lecturers in chemical, petroleum or mechanical engineering to stay in the education sector in the early years of their career. Up to six awards are made each year, worth £9000 over four years. Applicants should have been in their current post for at least one year and be teaching on accredited undergraduate engineering courses in the UK or Irish Republic.

  • Industrial Secondments

The secondments enable engineering lecturers to spend between three and six months, preferably on a full-time basis, in an industrial organisation gaining experience that will benefit their teaching. The awards pay their institution up to 100% of the cost of finding a replacement to cover the secondee's teaching duties.

Grants are provided to help engineering researchers in the UK make study visits overseas, particularly to attend conferences. Grants of up to 50% of approved costs may be awarded for visits of up to two months. The scheme is open to UK nationals and permanent residents of any age who are postgraduate students, postdoctoral researchers, lecturers involved in research, and chartered engineers in both academia and industry.
