Schemes for Engineers in Research and Development
International Travel Grants: Guidelines For Referees’ Letters
The Royal Academy of
Engineering operates this scheme to help
those involved in research at UK
universities and industry make study visits
overseas. As part of the application process
The Academy requires reports from two
referees, nominated by the applicant, who
know the applicant’s work well. The
application together with both referees' reports are sent to Fellows of The Academy
who act as assessors.
Applicants are
required to approach their own referees
directly and provide them with a copy of
their application form in addition to these
guidelines. In supporting an application,
referees are asked to make any comments they
consider pertinent but specifically on the
following:
-
The relevance of
the activity to the applicant’s current
work.
-
The objectives to
be achieved by the applicant in
undertaking the activity.
-
The benefit of the
proposed visit to the applicant, the
applicant’s employer and to the standing
of UK engineering abroad.
-
The level of
funding requested and the likelihood of
receiving funding from other sources.
Reports should be sent
electronically by email to Ian Bowbrick at the Academy's address
quoting 'International Travel Grants'. Please note that we no longer accept hard copy referee reports
