Schemes for Engineers in Research and Development
Research Exchanges with China and India
Funding
Short Awards cover ‘out of pocket’ expenses,
primarily travel and accommodation costs, of up to £3,000.
Major Awards provide funding at a flat rate
of £22,000 per annum (or pro rata for shorter visits) regardless
of the direction of travel. The Award is not expected to cover the
full costs of the Exchange.
The total funding available for a Joint
Exchange is the same as for a single Award, ie up to £3,000 for
a joint Short Award and £22,000 for a joint Major Award.
Please note that the funding
provided is not a salary but a grant to cover
travel, accommodation, living expenses and visas. No
more than 10% of this Award may be used to cover
project costs¬¬ - to include project specific
consumables and costs of conference and seminar
attendance directly related to the research area.
Funding cannot be used to pay for staff costs,
administration costs or running costs of the Host
Institution.
Funding is allocated to the UK
Institution, irrespective of whether the visit is
inward or outward, and there will be a contractual
responsibility to transfer the appropriate funds to
the Visiting Researcher. All responsibility for
arranging travel and accommodation will lie with the
Visiting Researcher and the Host Institution.
No more than 50% of the total
approved estimated cost for Major Awards (up to 90%
for Short Awards) will be transferred to the UK
Institution when the Award is made. The remaining
funds will be released after the completion of the
Exchange (and after submission of an interim report
in the case of Major Awards) and receipt of the end
of project report.
