Schemes for Engineers in Research and Development

Research Exchanges with China and India

Funding

The Award is up to £24,000 per annum (or part thereof depending on the length of stay) for researchers coming to the UK and those travelling to China/India.

Please note that the funding provided is not a salary but a grant to cover travel, accommodation, living expenses and visas. No more than 10% of this Award may be used to cover project costs - to include project specific consumables and costs of conference and seminar attendance directly related to the research area. Funding cannot be used to pay for staff costs, administration costs or running costs of the Host Institution.

The total funding available for Joint Exchanges is the same as for a Single Award. The division of funding between the two visits must be identified separately.

Funding is allocated to the UK Institution, irrespective of whether the visit is inward or outward, and there will be a contractual responsibility to transfer the appropriate funds to the Visiting Researcher. All responsibility for arranging travel and accommodation will lie with the Visiting Researcher and the Host Institution.

No more than 90% of the total approved estimated cost for Awards will be transferred to the UK Institution when the Award is made. The remaining funds will be released after the completion of the Exchange and receipt of the end of project report.

If the final report indicates that shorter actual visits resulted, than in the original proposal or application, then all the 10% retained funding would not be returned to the institution to compensate for the reduced visit duration.
