Silver Medal
Rules and Conditions

Nominations are invited for
The Royal Academy of Engineering Silver Medal. Self nominations are not
acceptable.

The Award will consist of a
Silver Medal and a certificate.

The Medal recognises an
outstanding and demonstrated personal
contribution to British engineering, which has
resulted in successful market exploitation, by
an engineer working in the United Kingdom, with
less than 22 years in full time employment or
equivalent on 1 January in year of award and who
will normally be Chartered. The engineer may be
a team leader or working in a team, and drawn
from any branch of engineering.

Consideration will be given
where an equal contribution has been made by
more than one person. In which case, a joint
award of two medals may be justified.
Co-applicants are both required to complete and
submit a form

The Silver Medallist(s)
will be selected by the Council of The Royal
Academy of Engineering on the recommendation of
the Awards Committee.

Up to four Medals will be
awarded annually. The Medal will not be awarded
if in any year the Council so decides.

The Medal(s) will usually
be presented mid year at The Academy's Awards
Dinner.

Submissions should be made
on the accompanying form (available also on
www.raeng.org.uk) and sent to The Royal Academy
of Engineering and must give the following
information:

Particulars of
individual engineer including full name,
date of birth, address, appointment and
academic and professional qualifications;

Citation of not more
than 500 words identifying contribution to
British engineering resulting in successful
market exploitation. An indication should be
given of the ways in which the nominee is
performing outstandingly for experience and
seniority, and giving indications of future
potential;

Details of the
individuals’ technical achievements (in
not more than 250 words).

Outline the
individuals’ commercial success (in not
more than 250 words).

A curriculum vitae of
not more than two pages should be
attached. Extensive lists of papers or
research grants should not be appended.

Nominations of candidates
who are not selected will remain before the
Awards Committee for the succeeding two years
unless barred by by number of years in full time
employment/equivalent.
