Engineers Against Poverty charity cycle challenge

Day 1 - 26 February 2010

Ho Chi Minh City - Tra Vinh

We arrived into Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) on 25 February in the evening and we didn't have much time to get used to the heat and humid conditions as we had to start the challenge the following day.

Picture of cyclists in Ho Chi Minh

We began just outside the city and didn't have to set off from the centre of the Ho Chi Minh City itself which thankfully meant we avoided navigating through the thousands of mopeds that swarm the whole width of the city's roads.

Picture of the 12 cyclists

There are 12 people in total taking part in the cycle challenge. The participants are based in Ireland, Belgium, Australia and Singapore as well as the UK.

Picture of school children on their cycles

The majority of schoolchildren travel by bicycle so the late afternoon is a busy time for the countryside roads.

We manage to see the last of the daylight as we cross the river.
