Engineers Against Poverty charity cycle challenge

Three of the Academy’s staff members; Cuong Dang, Éva Culleton-Oltay and Helen Berrington are taking up the Engineers Against Poverty Vietnam to Cambodia charity cycle challenge in the early part of 2010. This requires the participants to cycle 525km over eight days.

Engineers Against Poverty is an independent charity that was established 10 years ago by some of the UK’s leading professional engineering institutions. Their mission is to work with government, industry and civil society to fight poverty and promote sustainable development. They do this through improving the ways in which engineering and technology is applied in low and middle income countries. They develop practical solutions aimed at creating jobs, promoting enterprise development and improving education and training. More information about Engineers Against Poverty can be found on their website: http://www.engineersagainstpoverty.org/

The Academy is fully supporting the team in their commitment to a charity that highlights the importance of engineering to aid the poorer areas of the world and I am sure you will agree that it is an extremely worthy cause to raise funding for. Not only will the team have to work hard in the coming months to train for the tough challenge but they have made substantial individual donations themselves to cover their flights. However, they still face the task of raising a total of £10,500 before they leave for Vietnam in February 2010 and I hope that you will want to support them.
