  • CAETS Convocation: John Baxter FREng and Professor Howard Wheater FREng delivered presentations at the biennial meeting of the International Council of Academies of Engineering and Technological Sciences (CAETS) between 13 and 17 July at Calgary, Canada. The theme for the conference was “Our Heritage of Natural Resources- Management and Sustainability”.

  • 2009 ERA International Lecture
    This year’s ERA International Lecture was delivered by Abdallah S. Jum’ah, former CEO and President of Saudi Aramco, the Saudi Arabian national oil company. The lecture was entitled “Technology: the key to the future of Sustainable Energy” and took place on 17 June 2009 at BMA House. Lord Browne chaired.

  • The European Institute of Innovation and Technology: A UK Perspective
    On 25 March 2009, the Academy hosted a briefing for UK stakeholders in The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). EIT Governing Board member Professor Julia King CBE FREng was the keynote speaker. The Academy is grateful to the Department for Innovation Universities and Skills for the support of this event.

  • Engineering Change Essays Launch
    On 21 October the Academy launched a new publication: Engineering Change – Towards a sustainable future in the developing world. (1340KB) The book is a collection of essays exploring the role of engineering in international development.

  • Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between The Royal Academy of Engineering and The Chinese Academy of Engineering
    Lord Browne, President of The Royal Academy of Engineering and Professor Xu Kuangdi, President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, signed a Memorandum of Understanding between both Academies on 11 June 2008 in the presence of the Rt Hon John Denham MP, Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills.

    25-27 June 2008, Delft The symposium of the International Council of Academies of Engineering and Technological Sciences (CAETS) was organised by the Netherlands Academy of Technology and Innovation. The theme was “Enabling Life in River Deltas”.

  • The 2006 Hinton Lecture: Redesigning African Economies

    Professor Calestous Juma HonFREng FRS, Harvard professor and internationally-renowned expert in the application of technology to international development, delivered the Academy’s annual Hinton Lecture, in which he discussed the role of engineering in African economic development and identified a number of areas in which he considered the Academy could make a worthwhile contribution.

    A Meeting for Fellows and Special Guests

    The Royal Academy of Engineering recognises that China is an important and growing force in the global economy. Industries and sectors dependent upon engineering are major contributors to this growth. This meeting sought to draw on the Fellowship's expertise and corporate knowledge to underpin the development of the Academy’s strategy for relations with China.
