The Academy is in the process of
compiling a booklet of essays highlighting the
varied roles that engineers can play in promoting
poverty reduction and sustainable development. The
booklet will be published in 2008. If you have

Redesigning African Economies (212KB)
In October 2006, Professor Calestous Juma
HonFREng FRS, Harvard professor and
internationally-renowned expert in the
application of technology to international
development, delivered the Academy’s annual
Hinton Lecture, in which he discussed the role
of engineering in African economic development.

Engineering Capacity Building with African Partners (813KB)
The Academy has been investigating the
possibility of engaging in an engineering
capacity building project with partners in
Sub-Saharan Africa. This feasibility study was
carried out by Dr Helen Bartlett in 2006 and is
