    The Academy is in the process of compiling a booklet of essays highlighting the varied roles that engineers can play in promoting poverty reduction and sustainable development.     In October 2006, Professor Calestous Juma HonFREng FRS, Harvard professor and internationally-renowned expert in the application of technology to international development, delivered the Academy’s annual Hinton Lecture, in which he discussed the role of engineering in African economic development.

    The Academy has been investigating the possibility of engaging in an engineering capacity building project with partners in Sub-Saharan Africa.
