13 - 14 April 2011 The economic and social life of synthetic biology
at The Royal Society and The Royal Academy of Engineering
On 13-14 April 2011, the Royal Society and the Royal Academy of Engineering are jointly hosting a two day symposium to discuss the economic and social life of synthetic biology. For the first time, the expertise and networks of the science and engineering academies from the UK, China and US will be brought together, producing a unique opportunity for researchers, policy makers and firms interested in this emerging field.
The first in a series of three symposia, each held in a different country (UK, China and US), this symposium will explore the potential for synthetic biology research to lead to novel tools and technology, as well as the challenges provoked by these innovations.

23 March 2011 11th Annual Regional Public Lecture and Fellows' Dinner

Regrettably, due to personal circumstances Professor
Anne Nevillle FREng will no longer be available to speak at this event.
The new speaker will be as follows: Professor Rob Dwyer-Joyce, Professor of
Lubrication Engineering and Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at
Sheffield
6.00pm at Sheffield University
The lecture is open to the public and the dinner that follows at 8 pm is for Fellows and their guests. As part of the evening, commencing at 5.30 pm, we are planning a Poster Competition for early career university staff and researchers - details to be circulated in the New Year. Fellows may each bring a guest to the dinner and spouses are welcome. An early indication of your interest in attending the lecture and/or dinner will be helpful.
