23 September 2011 London Design Festival Innovation Hothouse Final
10.30am - 4.15pm at Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining
Innovation Hothouse is a competition which showcases the very best design projects of final year students on engineering, materials and product design degree schemes. It is also aimed at helping to foster the commercialisation of the students' work. The seven finalists will be presenting to the Judging Panel on the day.

22 September 2011 Research Forum
10.00am to 3.45pm at The Royal College of Physicians, 11 St Andrews Place, Regent's Park, London NW1
The annual showcase of Engineering Research sponsored by the Academy. This meeting will be a superb opportunity for individuals undertaking leading edge engineering research, their industry sponsors, as well as a host of interested parties to meet and hear about the wide range of work that is currently under way. Researchers will be exhibiting their work and the speakers shown are representative of our various researchschemes. There will be an introduction by Sir John Parker FREng and the guest speaker will be The Rt Hon David Willetts MP.

13 September 2011 Engineering the future of water
Local water recycling
Speakers will include: Professor Paul Jeffrey, Professor of Water Management Cranfield University; Stephen Kay, Managing Director, Cambridge Water; Professor Tom Stephenson FREng, Head of Applied Sciences Cranfield University; Jenny Bashford, Water Policy Advisor National Farmers Union; Dr Ben Curtis, UK Co
1.45pm to 5.15pm at Institution of Mechanical Engineers, One Birdcage Walk, Westminster, London, SW1H 9JJ
This event is the first in a series addressing the issue of water security. This event will look at the technology utilised for local water recycling as well as attitudes and behaviours towards using recycled water. This event will look at the issue from the perspective of a water company, the farming community, academics, researchers and providers of the engineering technology.

The Royal Academy of Engineering launches its 2011 series of debates on 5th September at the Royal Society of Medicine. This first debate will bring together industry leaders, policy makers, engineers and economists to discuss the issues resulting from the non-uniform distribution of energy resources across the globe. The Natural Resources in the Global Economy debates follow last year's very successful series of debates on Competing in the Global Economy.
