Over the last six years, the Royal Academy of Engineering (the Academy) has been delivering a programme to increase diversity and inclusion (D&I) across engineering. Each year, it shares progress and key themes with partners and stakeholders to drive collaborative change.
This year the annual D&I event provides a platform to launch a report about the culture of engineering and the extent to which it is inclusive, based on the feedback of almost 7,000 engineers. The event will share findings and recommendations from the report, as well as action to improve D&I measurement, inclusive recruitment, communication, D&I supply chain leverage through procurement and progress in D&I across professional engineering institutions.
Through a number of talks and panels discussions, delegates will be given an opportunity to:
receive the newly published report about culture and inclusiveness in engineering
get insight into the D&I Programme's aims and objectives (Dervilla Mitchell CBE FREng, Chair of the Academy's Diversity and Inclusion Committee)
find out how leaders are taking action at personal and organisational level to develop inclusive leadership (David Parry-Jones, Vice President of VMware Europe, and Andy Woodfield, Partner at PwC)
discuss the findings and recommendations of the inclusive cultures survey report (David Jenkins, Practice Director Engineering – Transportation at Atkins, Sarah Bond and Dr Gillian Shapiro from for business sake, and Bola Fatimilehin, the Academy's Head of Diversity)
understand what they can do to make an active contribution to creating more inclusive cultures in engineering

stimulate supply chain D&I through procurement practice (Dr Nelson Ogunshakin OBE, President and CEO of Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE), and Jenny Young)

This event is an excellent opportunity for networking and offers a great platform to share ideas and best practice.
Who should attend?
One of the key recommendations from the inclusive cultures report, to be launched at the event, is that men are key in creating positive D&I change. As the current majority group, the sector needs the vital engagement of men to create a more inclusive engineering culture for the future. We are keen to make the audience for this event as representative of the profession as possible and particularly encourage male attendance.
