Engineering Leadership Awards Selection 2005
18 March 2005 - 20 March 2005
Over the weekend 18- 20 March, engineering undergraduates from across the UK attended a residential event at the Moller Centre, Cambridge. This event was the culmination of a process that started in October 2004 with announcements on web sites and posters distributed to over 90 Universities running MEng courses.
During October and November 2004, 581 undergraduates requested application packs, and by the deadline in mid-December 130 completed packs had been received at The Academy. At the same time the new, directly sponsored Institute of Physics Engineering Leadership Award was actively promoted in Physics departments in more than 20 Universities.
At the selection event, 7 Fellows of The Academy were supported by 6 Sainsbury Management Fellows in conducting 64 interviews. At the conclusion of the event the Fellows decided to make Awards to 25 engineering undergraduates, and 1 Institute of Physics Award to a Physics student.
The Awards are worth up to £7,500 to each student over a three year period, and a Sainsbury Management Fellow mentor is assigned to each person. In addition all new Awardees will attend the education and training event in Cambridge in September, along with all other current Award holders.
