Visiting Professors in Principles of Engineering Design: The role of The Academy in Engineering Education
The Academy's overall
objectives are the pursuit, encouragement
and maintenance of excellence in the whole
field of engineering in order to promote the
advancement of the science, art and practice
of engineering for the benefit of the
public.
In respect of
education The Academy seeks to influence
debate on all key issues pertaining to
engineering, and to sponsor schemes designed
to improve the national supply of high
calibre engineers. It also promotes
vigorously the improvement of communications
between industry and academia. The Academy
prefers to work as a catalyst, accelerating
the identification of solutions to important
problems but not wishing to become involved
in their long-term administration. One of
the schemes in which it is currently
involved and which is aimed at improving
both the fitness for purpose of new
engineering graduates and the quality of
industry/ academe links is about engineering
design education.
