Schemes for Professional Engineers
Sir Angus Paton Bursary
In 1986 Sir Angus Paton made
an endowment to The Royal Academy of Engineering
from which an annual bursary is funded. The bursary
supports a suitably qualified engineer study a
full-time Masters’ degree course specifically
related to water resources engineering or some other
environmental technology.
The bursary is awarded by the
Trustees of the Panasonic Trust in conjunction with
its annual
Fellowship programme.
Prospective applicants must therefore submit an
application through this scheme to be considered for
the award of this prestigious bursary.
Sir Angus Paton CMG FREng FRS
(1905 - 1999)
One of Britain’s most
distinguished engineers, Sir Angus worked on and
managed some of the biggest construction projects
around the world. His most notable achievements were
the construction of the Kariba dam and hydroelectric
power station on the River Zambesi and the Indus
Basin Project in Pakistan.
Sir Angus was President of the
Institution of Civil Engineers 1970-1971 and Vice
President of the Royal Society 1977-1978. He was one
of the founding Fellows of The Fellowship of
Engineering in 1976, which became The Royal Academy
of Engineering in 1992.
