Executive Engineers’ Programme Case Study: Rob Harding
Rob Harding joined Arup as a Geotechnical
& Tunnelling Engineer in September 2006 having studied at the
University of Bristol for 4 years. He graduated with a 1st
class honours MEng degree in Civil Engineering.
Since joining Arup, Rob has
been seconded to the Atkins and Arup joint venture
team working on the Crossrail Project. As part of
this team Rob is contributing to the design of a new
railway route through London (West-East) from
Maidenhead and Heathrow via Paddington (& Central
London) to the East. Specifically Rob is responsible
for the provision of all tunnels and shafts at
Tottenham Court Road Station. Potentially a £7.2
billion infrastructure scheme, Crossrail is going
through Parliament in order to obtain authority to
build the infrastructure link.
Rob commented as follows on
his attendance as a Year 1 participant in 2006:
“The first year laid a firm
foundation for both educational and professional
career development, concentrating on change within
organisations and leadership. These sessions aimed
at both an individual level and organisational
level, from setting out personal objectives to
influencing the work environment. They focussed on
the need for engineering companies to constantly
change, preparing for new challenges and enacting
successful change.
The weekend was an
excellent opportunity to mix with staff of the
Academy and Fellows of both the Academy and
Sainsbury Management Fellows’ Society. All
participants’ profiles were distributed before the
event, and I benefited from advice and feedback
about my area from a number of people. It was great
to socialise with a highly motivated peer group, all
of whom wanted to achieve chartered status quickly
and talk about experiences, which across such a
multi-disciplinary group was invaluable.”
