Executive Engineers Programme
It is essential that engineering
graduates continue to develop as professionals not
only to fulfil their own career potential, but also
provide UK industry with the talent pool of leaders
and wealth creators needed to compete in the global
innovation driven economy of the 21st century.
The
Academy has developed this programme to meet the
need for an enhanced career ‘boot camp’ for graduate
engineers of high potential looking to accelerate
their careers in high tech and innovative industries.
This programme will lead participants to the rapid
attainment of professional registration as Chartered
Engineers (CEng) in addition to laying a firm
foundation for a higher level business education and
inspire them to enter a career in strategic business
leadership.
Programme format
The programme is
delivered in three stages, held as weekend courses,
over a three year period. Each stage is
progressively more challenging, engaging
participants in various aspects of project
management, finance, marketing, entrepreneurship,
innovation and business strategy. In addition there
are sessions dedicated to change management, career
planning and the process to CEng qualification. The
major themes of each stage are:
Year 1 – Managing
change
Year 2 – Managing innovation
Year 3 – Effective career planning
Material is delivered through a combination of
lectures, interactive group exercises and
presentations. Participants are mentored throughout
each weekend and encouraged to reflect on the
outcome of each session to ensure that the maximum
benefit is accrued from them. At the end of each
weekend, participants are tasked with drawing up an
action plan so that they apply the knowledge and
skills gained in the workplace and develop the
respective competencies in a structured manner.
Each
stage has been designed to complement the knowledge
and skills gained from company graduate training
schemes and other work experience, to enhance the
initial professional development (IPD) of
participants required for CEng qualification.
Programme participants
The programme has been
devised for engineers who have graduated no more
than three years before and been recognised as
being of high career potential.
Delivery team
A team
of highly experienced trainers, university
lecturers, industrialists, business angels and
facilitators has been brought together to deliver
this programme. The Academy exercises a thorough and
detailed evaluation process after each weekend to
ensure that each member of the team is delivering
useful and up-to-date material, engaging with
delegates and providing value for money.
