Schemes for GCSE and A-level Students

The Engineering Education Scheme

The future of the engineering profession depends on recruiting, educating and retaining the most able and motivated young people.

The Engineering Education Scheme is a major component in the Pre-University section of the Best Programme. It introduces sixth formers to the world of engineering via a programme of joint projects between participating schools and sponsoring industrial companies.

Since it began as a pilot scheme in England in 1984, further schemes have been developed in Wales and Northern Ireland. Its success in developing a nationwide series of collaborations between education and industry every year has been productive for all involved.

Wolverhampton Girls High School Wolverhampton Girls High School working with Rolls-Royce Nuclear Engineering Services Ltd on a project to develop an audio safety barrier.
Fortismere School, London Fortismere School, London working with Arup on the design of a self sustaining school in the Ladakh region of Northern India.
Hewitt School Hewitt School working with May Gurney Construction on a project to optimise auger piling soil displacements.
