Engineering Further Education (EFE)
Continuing Professional Development
In-house expertise at the
Academy is being used to develop and deliver a suite
of free Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
sessions for college practitioners nationwide.
We
are currently in the process of hosting a series of
regional Webinars with Heads of Engineering or
Curriculum Managers in FE colleges where we are
disseminating important FE STEM Data on the
contribution the FE & Skills Sector makes to
engineering both Nationally and Regionally. The data
looks at engineering achievements by region,
engineering in region by level, provider and
diversity, the most popular engineering
qualification and also looks at the supply and
demand in each region by reviewing Labour Market
Information (LMI) amongst others.
Included in these
Webinars is a discussion on engineering
subject-specific CPD needs within colleges. A common
theme will develop from these discussions allowing
CPD sessions to be developed that actually meet
college and practitioner needs.
Webinars have
already been held with three regions and as a result
of discussions a CPD session on Smart Materials has
been developed and will be disseminated early next
year. The session will showcase a sample of smart
materials and will combine hands-on activity with
the necessary theory to enhance the knowledge of the
FE profession and the next generation of engineers.
It is hoped that this session will be held at a
major engineering organisation and combined with a
technical tour. As far as possible, a free box of
kit relating to the session will be given to
practitioners to take back and use in the classroom.
Future CPD sessions are likely to covers areas such
as:
-
Maintenance;
-
Sustainability in engineering
curricula;
-
Renewable energy and technology;
-
Teaching engineering, mathematics and science
through the sport of Bob Skeleton;
-
Linking IT and
engineering using Programmable Interface Controllers
(PICs)
Dates for all upcoming CPD sessions will be
posted here once confirmed. The CPD sessions and kit
are free and in addition the Academy will make a
contribution towards travel expenses.
