Connecting Teachers
The
Connecting Teachers project provides local support
for teachers, helping them illustrate to young
people the role of engineering in society and how
engineers help shape the world and improve our
lives.
The Academy works hard to ensure the future of
engineering in the UK by investing in schools to
inspire the next generation of engineers. The
Connecting Teachers project is school based support
built around a national network of Teacher
Coordinators (TCs) who work with other STEM teachers
to widen participation in STEM at KS3. Central to
the project is engaging girls as well as boys and
black and minority ethnics (BMEs) into STEM by
showing what a varied career it can ultimately lead
to.
There are currently 8 Teacher Coordinators (TCs)
based around the UK with more to be recruited up to
July 2012. These TCs have used their local knowledge
to build a network of schools through which they
organise, coordinate and deliver twilight CPD events
and help to establish links across schools and STEM
departments.
Most of the TCs are practising teachers who run
their networks in their own time and understand the
needs of STEM teachers. They are a great mix of STEM
teachers including mathematics, design and
technology, science and IT teachers.
If you are a school and want to get involved with
the project please contact your local TC or the
Project Manager at the Academy.
