Chief Executive, BG Group
Sir Frank Chapman has worked in the oil and gas industry for 38 years and
is highly regarded as an engineer who has enjoyed a rich and varied career. Having graduated
from Queen Mary College, London University, with a first class honours degree in mechanical
engineering, he spent 22 years with the Royal Dutch/Shell Group and BP, before joining the
British Gas Group in 1996 as Managing Director, Exploration and Production. He was appointed
to the BG plc Board following the demerger of Centrica in 1997 and became Chief Executive of
BG Group plc in October 2000. Under Sir Frank’s leadership, BG Group’s growth rate
has been at a multiple of the industry average as it has transformed into a global gas major.
In that period, the Group’s market capitalisation has risen from $13 billion to some $70
billion today and it is now firmly established as a FTSE 10 company.
