Photo of Professor Paul Geoffrey Wrobel FREng CEng FRINA RCNCDistinguished for his contributions to many Royal Navy programmes in a career spanning the Ministry of Defence, industry and academia, Paul Wrobel was one of the first to see the cost benefit of building warships to commercial standards – specifically for HMS Ocean (LPH) and subsequently HMS Albion & Bulwark (LPD’s). He was Technical Director at Vickers Shipbuilding and Engineering Ltd during the peak of the TRIDENT submarine programme responsible for the engineering disciplines. He led a multi-national team for the newly formed Thales Naval Limited winning the competition for the design of the Future Aircraft Carrier (CVF) – the Queen Elizabeth-class carriers. He joined QinetiQ at the beginning of 2004 as the Director of Naval Programmes responsible for setting strategy across the Naval Domain and acting as a catalyst to transform the business to a successful international industrial partner. Now in Academia he is the leader across five Universities of the EPSRC & Industry co-funded project into “Low Carbon Shipping”.
