Professor Colin Gareth Bailey FREng CEng FICE FIStructE MIFireE
Vice President and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering & Physical Sciences, The University of Manchester
Structural fire engineering, including developing a new design method for
the optimum specification of fire protection on buildings, is Colin Bailey’s area of
expertise. He is the author of over 100 research papers and design guides on the subject and
contributes to code development. As well as previously working for a number of design consultants
he has worked for The Steel Construction Institute (SCI) and The Building Research Establishment
(BRE) where his practical research experience resulted in significant developments in structural
engineering design. He has also been a leading fire design expert on a number of iconic buildings.
