Dr Saeed Zahedi OBE FREng CEng FIMechE

Leading prosthetics engineer Saeed Zahedi has demonstrated outstanding
innovation, project management, product development, scientific research and education,
exemplified in the production of the world-class Echelon hydraulic ankle-foot prosthesis
for amputees. His company was shortlisted for the 2010 Royal Academy of Engineering MacRobert
Award for this product. Using digital electronics and intelligent interfaces, Blatchford has
developed a number of foot, hydraulic ankle and microprocessor-controlled knee systems, with
the goal of making them as close as possible to a normal functioning limb. The company runs
over 30% of NHS prosthetics and orthotics contracts, including the Defence Medical
Rehabilitation Centre at Headley Court, and also provided artificial leg systems for the
people of Haiti in the wake of the 2010 earthquake.
