Dr Gareth Williams FREng CEng FIET FRAeS
Vice President, Engineering, Research and Technology, Airbus SAS, Toulouse
Gareth Williams is distinguished for his achievements in advanced
aerospace manufacturing, including key contributions to the establishment of a world-class
Airbus A380 aircraft wing manufacturing plant in Broughton, North Wales that has delivered
48 wing sets per year on time. He has subsequently led the development of lean manufacturing
practices now adopted across Airbus. Airbus produces civil airliners and military transport
aircraft, delivering more than 500 new vehicles in 2011 and supporting the operation of a
global fleet of 6,500 aircraft. He is a member of the steering board for the Advisory Council
for Aviation Research and Innovation in Europe, was a member of the governing board of the
Clean Sky Joint Technology Initiative, and is a member of the industrial advisory boards of
several universities.
