Council and Committees: Standing Committee for Education and Training

The role of the Education and Training Committee is to oversee and be responsible to the Council for The Academy’s activities in engineering education and training, and to maintain links with other bodies working in these fields. In accordance with The Academy’s mission statement in the pursuit and encouragement in all fields of engineering, the committee:

• Maintains awareness of all major developments which might influence engineering education, training and competence to practise, and which could affect the engineering profession;

• Initiates appropriate studies when required in keeping with the current Corporate Plan, most recently in pre-graduate work experience;

• Authorises The Academy’s activity within the Best programme;

• Instigates reports on engineering education issues of the day;

• Identifies appropriate subjects and speakers for Academy events and lectures;

• Establishes links and, when appropriate, a portfolio of work with Government Departments and other relevant agencies.
